Hello, Police? I would like to report a murder at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Immediately following Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ homegoing service, refreshments will be served in the hall. It’s Easy Mac and dried out rotisserie chickens from Food Lion tho, so…ya know…

“What’s ‘Uncle Tom’ but for white women that disappoint other white women” SCREAMING

erraticonstilts:

“Women are also rejected. Women also spend their teen years pining after dreamy boys who will never love them back. You don’t see us going around murdering people over it. You don’t see us setting up internet communities for the purpose of talking about how evil and shallow men are for not taking us to pound town.
Women don’t go around killing men who don’t like them, because if you’re a woman in this society, a boy not liking you is the least of your problems. It is nowhere near the shittiest thing you’re going to be expected to “just deal with” in your life — one of those things being the fact that we are expected to “just deal with” how men are sometimes going to murder a bunch of people because they felt entitled to romantic attention from women. We are expected to “deal with” that, while never bringing up the terms “male privilege” or “male entitlement” or “toxic masculinity” and why those things so often lead to mass murder, on account of how that might really hurt the feelings of the men who have been gracious enough to not go on killing sprees.”

Get registered now. If you’re already registered, then help get someone else registered. Then double check your registration again, because Republicans are purging legally registered voters—mostly those with common “black” surnames—from voter rolls. And then make sure you vote in the midterm elections this November, because I guarantee you that all of the NRA “shall not be infringed” gun nuts will be voting.

It’s okay to make “not an NRA whore” your sole basis for deciding who to vote for. We need political representatives who will stop the gun-lickers more than we need purity on other (also important) issues. First things first: stop the slaughter of innocent children by the white men whom the NRA has been protecting.

Judge: Transgender People A Protected Class, And The Military Can’t Enact Trump Ban

profeminist:

“A federal judge late Friday barred the federal government from implementing President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender members of the military, finding that the ban had to be subject to a careful court review before implementation because of the history of discrimination against transgender individuals.

U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman of the Western District of Washington ruled that transgender people were a protected class and that the injunctions against the implementation of the ban that had been issued in December should remain in place. She wrote that there was a “long and well-recognized” history of discrimination and systemic oppression against transgender people, that discrimination against transgender people was clearly “unrelated to their ability to perform and contribute to society,” that transgender people have immutable characteristics and that they lacked relative political power.

“Transgender people have long been forced to live in silence, or to come out and face the threat of overwhelming discrimination,” Pechman wrote.

“The Court also rules that, because transgender people have long been subjected to systemic oppression and forced to live in silence, they are a protected class. Therefore, any attempt to exclude them from military service will be looked at with the highest level of care, and will be subject to the Court’s ‘strict scrutiny.’ This means that before Defendants can implement the Ban, they must show that it was sincerely motivated by compelling interests, rather than by prejudice or stereotype, and that it is narrowly tailored to achieve those interests,” Pechman wrote.

While Trump had tweeted that he consulted generals and military experts about the ban, Pechman wrote that the government had “failed to identify even one General or military expert he consulted, despite having been ordered to do so repeatedly.”

THIS IS HUGE NEWS and can have major implication for trans rights moving forward in the US as it establishes a precedent for legal treatment of trans people as a protected class due to ongoing persecution. This means it would be illegal to fire someone, to refuse them a job, or a home/apartment rental, because the person is trans.

#1yrago The Minnesotan left-wing economic miracle continues, while neighboring Republican states slowly collapse

mostlysignssomeportents:

Last fall, I wrote about
the strange case of Minnesota governor Mark Dayton, a left-wing
billionaire heir to the Target fortune who came to power and reversed
his Republican predecessors’ Reagonomic idiocy, instead raising taxes on
rich people, increasing public spending, and creating shared prosperity
for the people of Minnesota.

The results of the experiment continue to surprise and delight:
unemployment is down to 3.7%, private sector earnings are up 1.5% to
$891/week, 47,000 new jobs were added to the economy in the past year,
and the state just declared a $1.8B budget surplus, even as Forbes ranked it 9th in its table of best states for business.

But this is all the more remarkable when compared the fate of the
Republican-run, austerity-fuelled neighboring states, where a succession
of GOP governors and state houses have slashed taxes on business and
the wealthy, eliminated social spending, and attacked trade unionism.
They are running deficits, the people there are earning less
than their Minnesotan cousins, they’re adding fewer (and worse) jobs,
and posting less growth.

Economics is bedeviled by confounding factors: comparing the outcome of
the same intervention in two states will always be complicated by the
other differences in between them. But as controlled experiments go, you
could hardly ask for a better one than the outcomes in Kansas and
Winsconsin – the homes of the “American carnage” that Trump weaponized
in 2016 – and the ones in Minnesota over the same period. If that’s not
enough, we can just compare Minnesota under Dayton to the former
Republican governor Tim Pawlenty, who slashed services, cut taxes, and
drove the Minnesota economy off a cliff, from whose depths Dayton has
now comprehensively rescued it.

Trump will give healthcare workers the right to refuse to treat LGBT people

THIS SHOULD ENRAGE ALL OF US!

The Trump administration is considering a new “religious freedom” rule that would allow healthcare workers to refuse to treat LGBT patients.“
Please… read that again.

WOULD. ALLOW. HEALTHCARE. WORKERS. TO. REFUSE. LGBT. PEOPLE.

#RESIST

He’s done more than “consider a rule”

He’s even created an entire division that fields complaints that these people would make in case someone tries to strong arm them to do it!

He even created a website hot button that use a help desk so it can get you a representative!

We knew they’d try harder after the trans band failed.

this is murder.

Trans women have already been denied care by emergency responders, and died as a result, that has already happened. Now that fucker wants to bring that back, with legal protections for killers who do that.

That is murder. Make no mistake, this will kill people.

Trump will give healthcare workers the right to refuse to treat LGBT people
