if you’ve seen the breaking news that trump just signed an executive order today to end the family separation policy here’s some quick info to keep things in perspective
this doesn’t end the “zero tolerance” policy of prosecuting anyone who crosses the border “illegally”
the only thing this changes is that going forward, entire families will be detained together while awaiting prosecution
this offers no solution for freeing the thousands of children currently held in ICE child prisons or any path to reuniting them with their families
children will still be detained and treated as criminals
this will likely lead to thousands of families being held in ICE facilities and tent cities that will face the exact same issues of overcrowding, abuse, and inhumane conditions that exist in the child prisons
this is not a victory or a solution. This is the administration trying to cover their asses and avoid any more public outrage. They want people to see this as the end of the news story and go back to their lives. They want people to forget the thousands of children they are still keeping in cages in ICE facilities across the nation. This issue is not over and we cannot stop being outraged until we are given proof that the thousands of kidnapped children are returned to their families, and that the policy of arresting and prosecuting people who cross the border is ended.

Fascism cannot be met with peace you must crush fascism and fascists at every turn they do not deserve peace they deserve fierce retribution, consequence and reckoning

ALT-Immigration: Contrary to the rumors, I am not organizing the biggest protest outside every ICE detention center including private detention centers nationwide on July First. Falsehood.
One person can not organize civil protests at all of these immigration detention centers. [Attached is a map of the US with immigration detention centers marked.]
I mean, the idea of having over a million people drive up to the nearest ICETAPO DETENTION CENTER and make a day out of it is just ridiculous. Even if chances are there is a detention center within an hour drive of where most live
One last correction: I definitely did not come up with the idea of bringing diapers, baby formula, children books and toys to throw over immigration detention fences.
FYI June 30th is the anniversary of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 signed by President Lyndon Johnson at the foot of the Statue of Liberty. I would have picked June 30th and not July 1st if i were part of this. [Pic of the Statue of Liberty attached.]
No one volunteered to create a google doc with the list of all the ICE detention centers per state from that link and make it available to everyone to see and organize locally, carpool etc.

And it didn’t even end there: I was so uncoordinated, I happened to stumble upon a google doc for arranging carpools, as was absolutely not suggested by ALT-Immigration. I only hope I’m not so clumsy as to accidentally include a link to it in this post.
I’ve seen some conservatives claim that the liberals and Democrats don’t actually care about these kids. That we are faking outrage in order to condemn President Trump.
My rebuttal…

They will then say that we didn’t seem to care when Obama was putting kids in cages and “ICE boxes.”
The truth is, I didn’t know. Maybe that was a failure on my part. Perhaps I could have done a better job of informing myself. I don’t know. If I had known, I would have spoken out about it.
But this situation is still very different. This is a NEW policy. They are taking kids away from their parents. They are willingly traumatizing young children. They are causing them Toxic Stress and may even be harming them for life.
And they are doing it as a bargaining chip.
Trump wants his wall. He wants more border security. He wants to restrict legal immigration as well. Ending visa lotteries and programs that help bring family members over. He thinks that most immigrants will not vote Republican so he wants to close up the U.S. completely.
And he is willing to take these kids… these babies… hostage.
